Bought some Wrenn Formula 152 a little while back. On a rare occasion, when the sun light hit the track, I took pictures of the three F1 in front of the pits. Added some pictures of the F1 Race at Reims Gueux in 1959 for reference. I think it came very close. Need to find a way to make them go around the track someday.

If there was an easy way to duplicate the bodies, paint and decorate each one to the desired result, there would be more than two Porsche 911S from various races during that period in my collection.

The Kremer Racing Porsche form the 1971 event and the AAW Finland Racing Team 911S from the previous year team up for some pictures at Forest Hill. Looking at the pictures the subtle differences between the two models can be detected on the front and the rear bumper. The Kremer Porsche features the latest modifications with an altered front spoiler and split rear bumper.

For now, these are the last two examples to be featured. If I ever get myself to jump into casting bodies, there could be another series coming up. There are many more, I would like to see being made into 1:64 slot car models.

Nickname for the 911 was “Bananendampfer” banana steamer. In the 1970s bananas were still an exotic fruit and Chiquita was the main importer distributer in Germany. By chance Chiquita became the main sponsor offering 1.000 DM for each win. The “Bananendampfer” was born. 1969 was the most successful year for the team, finishing first in 13 races. In 1970 the Team once again won the GT Class and became 14. overall.
Two Porsche 908-03 finished first and second that year.

Hard to resist! The Kremer Porsche 911S Nürburgring 1970.
Porsche Kremer Racing 911S 1000km Nürburgring 1971 Slot Car h0 |
For those who have been following my blog the Kremer Porsche does not come as surprise. Porsche has been on the agenda for quite a while. Especially the cars from the 1970s and 1980s. (Not a conscious choice at all.) And Kremer Racing has been a very active part in Racing thru out that period. With a fresh approach on the graphics, their cars would draw some interest. That is why it is hard to resist reproducing the race cars for the h0 racetrack.

Der Porsche 911S Kremer Racing mit den typische Fuchs-Felgen |
The Porsche 911 S with Erwin Kremer / Jürgen Neuhaus came first in their class GT 2.0. While three Porsche 908/03 would finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd. (You can find the h0 replicas of the winning trio in some of the older posts.) The white arrow style ornament on the hood was difficult to reproduce. Detailed research on all the graphics has proven time intensive. But as many times before it was also very interesting. Reproducing the logos and sponsoring for the model has its merits, especially once they fit and look good on the body.

Porsche 911S Kremer Racing für die h0 Rennbahn - bringing the past alive! |
The procedure on the Kremer 911 S was very much the same as with all the others that had be created lately. Some significant changes transformed the AFX Porsche Carrera into a Porsche 911S. Front and rear were altered, mirror and rear spoiler removed. The body was cleaned, primed and painted. After decals were applied the body way protected with clear coat. Wheels by RRR and AFX with some Fuchs inserts by Custom FX on the front. There are many more 911S I would like to transform into h0 slot cars. If it was not for the time, each model is demanding. So far, I like the results, How about you?

Porsche 907 and 910 at 24h Le Mans 1970 - the Unknown Heroes
Slot Car Custom Porsche 910 and Porsche 907 24 Hours Le Mans 1970 |
If you like historic race cars and you also like h0 slot cars, you will not find to many of the iconic race cars ready to buy, collect or race in that scale. There are some Porsche, Ferrari, Ford GT40 and Cobra Daytona’s available, that can be converted into one of the legendary cars to be found on popular classic car meetings these days. To escape the limitations of h0, customizing bodies becomes a necessity. The variation of slot cars available in larger scales can be very tempting. When it comes to track building the size would be a drawback. The combination of the two, modelling slot cars and a slot tracks, offers more options. This is why making unique cars in 1:64 has become fascinating challenge. What can be achieved?

In case of the Porsche 910, 907 or 906 Carrera the TYCO 908 has proven to be a good starting point. The bodies even allow to swop the chassis for the preferred AFX Magnatraction. Modifications on the front wheel wells create a better look. With the rear exhaust removed, altered air intakes and side vents added, the body resembles some of the significant features. Proportions of doors and roof, rear deck lid, head lights have not been changed. With the almost correct graphics the Porsches are a good interpretation of the original race cars.
The growing collection h0 slot cars from the 24 hours Le Mans 1970 was never intended. In the beginning the collection of resin bodies by Ryotaro +R Models
drew my interest. At the time the focus was mainly on the Ferrari 512. The AFX Porsche 917 could be transformed into the race winning car and some of the other teams. Customizing various Porsche 911 on bases of the AFX Porsche 911 Carrera brought up the idea of making some of the interesting Porsche 911S of the race. The 910 and 907 followed. You can also scale the blog for more 24 hrs. Le Mans 1970 slot cars.

History Repeating – 24h Le Mans 1970 Porsche 911S
Metting Porsche 911 24h Le Mans 1970 h0 Slot Car at Forest Hill |
You might have seen the iconic Porsche 911 S with the number 277. This car became Magnus Walkers and also the Outlaw Porsche enthusiasts trademark. The design, with colour accents on the bumpers, the red hood with number and sponsors represents a time, when teams would enter cars with the similar look and feel to the main races, like the 24h of Le Mans 1970. Growing up during that period, the taste for those graphics stayed with me. After the first attempts converting the AFX Carrera to a 911 S, the idea grew to make more of the Porsche 911 entries at the 24h Le Mans 1970.

Having fun out on the track Porsche 911 from the 24h Le Mans 1970 |
Researching images of the various cars and background information proofed to be time consuming. 24h Le Mans 1970 seemed to be well documented. The internet has proven to be a great source for all sorts of information over the years. Finding detailed information on the teams and cars has proven to be rather difficult. Teams no longer exist. Sponsors changed logos or went out of business. Many images are of poor quality. Identifying names and graphics can take forever. Only by chance some of the logos could be identified. Some are still a vague reproduction of what was deciphered. Still the little Porsche 911 S look good and perform well on the track.

All of the cars sport an AFX Magnatraction chassis, like most of my custom-built slot cars Wheels are mostly RRR or similar AFX rims with Custom FX Fuchs inserts. Bodies are based on the AFX Porsche Carrera. All bodies underwent modification on front and rear spoilers and bumpers, the rear-view mirror was removed, a lump on the driver’s side. All the cars were treated with great care. All the paint removed, sanded, base coat applied, sanded, painted and repeated if necessary. Window trim, headlights, exhausts etc. were detailed with Revell Aqua Paint. Some decals came from Le Mans decals. Others are custom made decals for better proportions and detail, printed by Decal Print. The Porsche 911s are a nice addition the growing collection of h0 slot cars, representing the 1970 Le Mans grid.
