AFX Shelby Daytona custom #10 Le Mans 1965

Unfortunately, there is not much information to be found on the particular car. The Cobra was one of two cars entered by the Shelby America Corporation. Both would finish the race. I like to find more background information on the model to be replicated. Down to right color. I know of Zero Paint and Gravity colors that specialize in reproducing the team colors. Two colors are on offer. The darker metallic blue is Shelby Cobra Guardsman Blue the light is Ford Viking Blue. The Cobras in the pictures are not real refrence for the right colors they all very, from a purple dark blue to a light blue. But maybe that was of no importance.

The Shelby Daytona was based on the AC Cobra Roadster. According to Wikipedia only 6 were made from 1964 to 1965. Five off those in Italy. Looking at the body you see traces of other sports cars of that period. One that come to my mind would be the Ferrari 250 GTO 1964.

Tomy AFX had released several models. One top of it a white body and clear body was available. Those were meant to attract custom builders to make their own dream car. I had purchased several Cobra Daytona over the years. At that point the model was not a thought after collector item. Not sure how came to own two clear bodies, because they had been stored away for some time. Today I wish I had bought more clear bodies of the Cobra Daytona and the FORD GT40 MKII.

Jason Boye was or maybe still is a great inspiration for slot car modeler with his track Monzaco and slot car model for h0 tracks. One of the cars he produced was the Shelby Cobra Daytona, later produced by Tomy AFX. At one point Jason Boye sold decal sheets for the Cobra on eBay. A great opportunity, I could not pass. The decals were high quality screen prints.
