A Gibson Racing inspired Shelby Cobra Daytona Slot Car Custom
Do you visit websites for inspiration? Besides the websites that provide profound information on races and cars, the once showcasing the work on 1:1 car, current trends and features on events can be enchanting. One of these websites with excellent photography is STANCE|WORKS. They had an article on the 2018 Silverstone Classic with images by Peter Aylward. Amongst the many pictures with beautiful historic race cars was an image of a Cobra Daytona with a livery that was familiar but not on a Cobra. To me the livery was a perfect choice because it was from the period but an unusual sight on this car. This is how they had my attention. In that instance it was certain, that if I would customize a Cobra Daytona again, I wanted to replicate that look. Unfortunately, the Cobra seems to have vanished and there is other reference to the car (then the pictures from the event).
The reference for the livery was a Can-Am Championship winning Lola T70 from 1966 driven by John Surtees. Not sure if the livery was used on other of John Surtees cars.
The body for the model is a AFX Tomy Cobra Daytona. Decals are custom made and printed. Decals for the windows were made and used on several other Cobras that were build alongside the Gibson Cobra. It took several attempts to come close to the desired result.
