Shelby Cobra Essex Wire 1965 #91 Tribute
1965 the Essex Wire Cobra entered the intense world of Grand Prix Road Racing.
The Cobra originally wearing the Essex Wire outfit was not a Shelby Cobra Daytona. The Cobra with #91 was raced in 1965 by various drivers. It also made an appearance on slot cars, unfortunately not in h0. I custom made a version of the car using a Dash body for AFX chassis. It seemed an interesting idea to use the livery on a Cobra Daytona.
Basis for the custom built was a AFX Tomy Shelby Cobra. It underwent the standard treatment. Original paint was removed, body cleaned ang primed. The decals had to be custom made to fit the Cobras body. Window decals had been designed earlier on. Decals Print produced the decals. The quality of the decals helps a lot. Details are painted before applying the decals. Clear coat is sprayed on to protect the artwork.
The car runs on a AFX Magnatraction chassis, like most of my custom slot cars. The chassis is easy to maintain and performs to my liking without strong magnets and easy to control. All chassis will be cleaned and worn parts are replaced. Unfortunately, over time it has become more of difficult to find replacement. The Road Race Replica Cobra rims add to the overall looks.
Other custom Shelby Cobras have been made during that run. It tends to always be more than one car on the work bench. And while I am at it, more ideas for other cars come up. This usually happens because of extensive research on each car. One reason is to find the right sponsor logos used and gather information on the particular car.
