I do not remember how I came upon the clear Cobra Daytona bodies. They had been stored away for a very long time. Whenever I picked them up, I wondered how to paint the clear bodies. Over the years they became even more special. How would I overcome my anxiety painting the bodies? There was a moment when I thought I give it a try.

Bodies were carefully masked, also on the inside, to prevent fogging the glass by over spraying. Using Zero Paint Shelby Cobra Guardsmann Blue was helpful. The paint can be easily applied in rather thin layer an air brush. Give some time in-between to dry. After the masking tape was removed, I was relieved by the result.

AFX Cobra Daytona passing Start and Finish at Forest Hill

I had bought the silk screen decals made by Jason Boye a while back. Jason Boye originally designed the Cobra Daytona body for AFX. The decals fitted perfectly. I like to give the decals time to settle. After two- or three-days clear coat is sprayed on to protect the artwork and give it a nice finish. I have to admit that I have been tempering with various clear coats over the years. And still want to find one less shinny a thin enough to give it a more realistic look. For now, I have settled with 2K Lesonal Clear. Chassis are AFX Magnatraction with Road Race Replica Rims. Chassis have been all cleaned and refurbished. There is nothing better than running a smooth AFX Magnatraction chassis on my track. Speed and handling are very much to my liking.

AFX Cobra Daytona’s racing at Forest Hill

I wish there would be more information on the Alan Man Cobra at Goodwood. But there is hardly and picture of the car to be found on the internet. In the beginning I was not aware that only 6 Cobra Daytona’s were made. I hope to find more clear bodies to make more version of the Cobras and give them a little twist in their appearance.
